Bikes, Bells & a Picnic
Bikes, Bells & a Picnic
Free family cycling for New Scots part of the Glasgow 2026 Festival
This summer, Sunny Cycles is throwing open the doors of our hub at Monteith Row for Bikes & Bells - a free programme of cycling lessons, skills sessions and gentle rides created especially for New Scots: women and families who are new to Scotland and making Glasgow their home.
Many of the women we work with have never had the chance to learn to ride a bike. Bikes & Bells changes that - starting with women-only beginner lessons in a safe, supportive space, then family skills sessions where mums and kids build confidence together through games, and gentle led rides around a short, easy route with plenty of rest stops.
The programme comes together on Sunday 2nd August with Bikes, Bells & a Picnic - our biggest day of the summer. A women's Commonwealth celebration ride sets off at midday, then the whole family joins us on Glasgow Green, beside the People's Palace, for a free shared picnic, games and bike fun for all ages.
Every event is completely free, funded by the Glasgow 2026 Festival Fund. Bikes and helmets are provided in all sizes, no experience is needed, and everyone is welcome - whatever your level of English.
