Yes, we have a small number of seeds that we can give to people to help get them started. You don’t have to grow a lot, 1 or 2 seeds is enough. We do not have pots or soil, but these can be obtained from local gardening projects or even ask a friend or neighbour if they have any spare.
Petal Power
Grow a sunflower to help someone else grow their confidence on a bike 🌻🚲
Petal Power is Sunny Cycles’ sunflower growing campaign - a fun and inclusive way to support accessible cycling.
To take part, start by making a minimum £5 donation on our JustGiving page, then register to enter the competition using the link below.
Join by planting a sunflower and growing alongside your community. Every sunflower helps raise funds and awareness for Sunny Cycles’ work supporting people of all abilities to cycle.

FAQ
Got a question, if you can't find the answer please get in touch with us at hello@sunnycycles.org.uk
I don’t have any seeds, can you supply some?
I don’t have a garden, can I grow a sunflower?
If you don’t have a garden, try thinking outside the box. Do you have a window box, is there a local community space you could use, is there an old welly boot at the back door that you could use?
I don’t know how to grow sunflowers, where can I get advice?
We have a page on our website with some growing advice, but you can also ask other people, neighbours and friends for advice, or ask online search engines for advice. If you ask a friend or neighbour they might want to get involved too.Â
I missed the planting 2 weeks, can I still join in?
Yes you can still join in, but your seeds will bloom later. We aim to have our category winners selected and presented mid August. We will set a final deadline for submissions for the categories, but we know there will be flowers appearing later on. This campaign is not just about the competition, but about taking part and growing together as a wider community.Â
The sunflower is in our logo, and it’s the symbol for hidden disabilities. Sunflowers are bright, and bring joy to people. Growing a sunflower is hopefully something that everyone can do, and we can use this campaign to raise awareness of Sunny Cycles and the work we do, but also to bring people of our community together with a shared passion for sunflowers and cycling.Â
Do I have to make a donation if I am growing a sunflower?
This is a fundraising and awareness campaign to help support the work that Sunny Cycles does. We are encouraging people to make a minimum donation if they are joining in, but if you cannot afford to make a donation then try and get 1 other person to get involved and grow a sunflower. If you can afford to make a donation, the minimum is £5 but there is no maximum.Â
Visit our Just Giving page at —- or there is a link on our website to it. If you are not online, you can contact us to arrange to drop into our office and we can take a cash donation too.
Donations from this fundraising campaign will go towards providing cycling sessions for people with disabilities who use adapted bikes, towards teaching adults and children to ride bikes, and to help people build their confidence on a bike, trike or adapted bike. If you would like to know more, please sign up to become a member of Sunny Cycles and you will get member updates, get invited to our Annual General Meeting and have the opportunity to input into what Sunny Cycles does.
